Galvanometer to ammeter and voltmeter

Value of shunt is so adjusted that most of the current passes through the shunt. To convert the given galvanometer (of known resistance and figure of merit) into an ammeter of desired range and to verify the same. The ammeter is also known as the ampere meter.

The ampere is the unit of the current, so the ampere meter is the type of meter which measures the magnitude of current passes through it. It is connected in series with the circuit .

In practice, if this condition is not met, corrections should be made for the known resistance of the voltmeter.

The Galvanometer The galvanometer is the main component in analog ammeters and voltmeters. Is it possible to convert galvanometer into an ammeter ? YES, It is possible to convert it to an ammeter. Even though the deflection is directly proportional to the current, the galvanometer scale is not marked in ampere. Conversion of galvanometer into voltmeter and ammeter.

Physics, Class Chapter: Topic: Classroom lecture by Pradeep Kshetrapal. Language : English mixed with Hindi. A galvanometer can be converted into a. Not all the current takes the low resistance path! In fact the current divides itself between the shunt and the ammeter depending upon the proportions of the resistance of each.

You can notice the corresponding ammeter and voltmeter readings. What if you wanted to experimentally measure the voltage across some of these elements? Measuring current, voltage, and resistance.

Voltmeter : measures potential. If your galvanometer reads 1A full scale but you want the ammeter to read 5A full scale, then RSHUNT must result in IG=1A when I=5A. In this circuit, high resistance should be connected to the galvanometer in se. This channel helps in learning physics to the students preparing for various Engineering and Medical Entrance exams like JEE ,NEET AIIMS. I understand why voltmeters are connected in parallel and ammeters resistance vs power experiment not line.

A very important topic from competitive exams point of view. This topic has little maths involved but theoretical concepts should be very carefully studie which although are easy yet can create confuse in the exam time. This lesson explains the concepts involved in Electrical Instruments and how do we convert one device to . To male the meter less sensitive.

It is the modified form of galvanometer CO.
